ON-DEMAND PRODUCTION

What is On-Demand Production?

On-Demand manufacturing is a production model when the goods are made when they are required in the quantities they are needed.

In traditional manufacturing, brands send order quantities to manufacturers before customers order a product. On-Demand Production, on the other hand, reverses this process so that there can be radical reductions in waste. With on demand production the customer orders the product first and subsequently the orders are placed with the manufacturer.

This means that with On-Demand Production, brands are only producing stock they have already sold. This reduces the environmental impact on the excess product that would require energy, resources, and cost to produce, and would otherwise create pollution through shipping and production and waste when it ends up in a landfill.

Why does the fashion industry need On-Demand Production?

Overproduction in fashion is a major environmental threat as the fashion industry is one of the major contributors to landfills.

The On-Demand Production model reduces waste from over-production and is a more sustainable and environmentally friendly model for the fashion industry.

We want to help change the way we consume, starting with reducing our environmental impact with On-Demand Production.

What are the benefits of On-Demand?

1. You are rewarded for shopping sustainably with pre-order discounts.

2. There is no waste from over-production – this is one of the major benefits of the On-Demand model – This means less products are going directly into landfills without ever being purchased.

3. Reduces the environmental impact on the planet- On-Demand is a more sustainable model –It reduces the energy and pollution from production and shipping of product that will never be ordered.

4. You receive new products and collections regularly - On-Demand has a more agile design process which means we can launch more frequent collection and rapidly respond to trends and consumer demands.

How is On-Demand more sustainable?

On-Demand is a more sustainable model of production because of the drastic reduction in over-production.

On-Demand production ensures that the quantities produced meet the demands of that product. This means that there is a radical reduction of waste. Moreover, there is also a reduced environmental impact from the decreased number of units produced.

When you only produce the number of products that are actually ordered – you reduce the pollution that would have come from the production and shipping of products that go straight to a landfill as they are never sold.

What are the differences between traditional production and On-Demand Production?

TRADITIONAL PRODUCTION:

- Seasonal bulk orders of products that designers hope customers will buy

- Large amounts of dead stock & product wastage

- Push production - Production predicted on designer and buyer predictions of future customer demand

- Produced in seasons

- Unsustainable model

ON-DEMAND PRODUCTION:

- Production in response to customer’s demand

- Minimized waste and no over-production

- Reduces energy used on stock that is never sold and never used

- Reduces pollution of shipping stock that is never sold and never used

- Smaller batch production cycles – can minimize waste further

- Produce ranges more frequently because of a more agile design process

- Sustainable model
